Blanchard - John L. Thomas, 53 died Monday, October 20, 2008 at the Emergency Room at Lock Haven Hospital. John was born December 5, 1954 in Blanchard the son of the late John L. & Margaret "Margie" (Smith) Thomas. He was currently employed at the Sugar Valley Rural Charter School, Loganton as a math and science teacher for the past six years and was also the golf coach. He enjoyed the outdoors and wine making. John was a graduate of Lock Haven University, attended West Virginia University, Tennessee Technical Institute and Marshall University. He received a Master's degree from the Graduate School of West Virginia. He also taught at Meadowbridge High School in Meadowbridge, West Virginia where he was a basketball coach. He was co-director of the County Science Fair. While at Meadowbridge he was named to Who's Who among American Teachers. John was a member of LaFayette Masonic Lodge #199 of Lock Haven and the Beech Creek American Legion. Surviving are his companion Jo Ann Orwig of Blanchard and one sister Mary (Richard) Yanda and a niece Elizabeth Yanda both of Fleming Island, FL There will be a time of remembrance and fellowship for the students and staff from 10:00 - 12:00 on Friday, October 24, 2008 at Albright United Methodist Church, Loganton with Pastor Brenda Mitchell officiating. There will also be another memorial service announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall.
