YORK - John L. Starner, 89, went to be with the Lord on Thursday April, 29, 2021 at his residence. John was the husband of Nadine C. (Menges) Starner for 63 years. The couple was wed on February 16, 1958. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Ct. York, PA 17408 on Friday May 7, 2021. A time of viewing will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Born in Conewago Twp. on January 17, 1932, John was the son of the late Harry A. and Mary R. E. (Kaehler) Starner. After serving our country in the US Navy, John worked with Pressell Florist and ESAB Inc. as a quality control supervisor. He was a member at the Church of the Open Door for many years. Mr. Starner was actively involved in foreign missions work and went on many missions trips. John served as an elder and taught Sunday school. He was part of the A.R.M.S. ministry, the Joyful Hearts Choir and the Flower and Finance Committees. John loved to read and loved his family most of all. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Nadine; two sons, Bradley A. Starner and his wife, Darlene F. of Cape Coral, FL; Brian A. Starner and his wife, Kimberly D. of Martinsburg, WV; daughter Brenda A. Starner and her husband, Christopher D. Carter of Jamestown, NC; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Mary Louise Irving. John was preceded in death by his sister Geraldine Millheim, two brothers, Albert Starner and Harry “Ed” Starner.
