John L. Place

Manchester—John L. Place, 68, died Sunday, December 18, 2011 at his residence in Manchester Township. He was the husband of Barbara J. (Ford) Place. The couple celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary August 19th. A Celebration of Life Service will be 7 PM, Monday, December 26, 2011 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, with the Rev. Richard Starr officiating. A viewing will be held from 5-7 PM, Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Born April 3, 1943 in Clarks Summit, he was a son of the late John B. and Hazel L. (Lee) Place. He was employed with Associated Wholesalers Inc., as a diesel mechanic for several years until his retirement. A United States Coast Guard Veteran of the Vietnam War, he also enjoyed hunting, saltwater fishing, boating and repairing car engines. In addition to his wife, Mr. Place is also survived by one son, John C. Place of Alexandria, VA; three grandchildren, John J. Place of Alexandria, VA, and Orin and Alex Hagner of Dover; two sisters, Joan Rudisill of South Hampton and Shirley Rosencrance of Waverly and nieces and nephews.
