YORK - John L. Morton, 59, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy. He was the husband of Denise M. (Hoffman) Morton to whom he was married for 35 years on October 16, 2017. A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home with Pastor Duane Bahn officiating. Born September 22, 1958 in York, a son of Marlene J. (Krout) Morton of York and the late James T. Morton, Jr., he was a 1977 graduate of Dallastown Area High School where he was a standout wrestler. Mr. Morton was president of Lion Industrial Knife Co. until his retirement in 2014 after 22 years, prior to that he had worked for Ben Druck Door Co. for 19 years. John lived his everyday life with a plan and a purpose, always wanting to help those in need. He enjoyed riding four wheelers through Allegheny National Forest in NW PA, woodworking, mowing, and hobby farming. John enjoyed hunting at Camp Nelson Hunting Club in Clinton Co. and was always up for a good “burnie” or bonfire. In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Morton is survived by a daughter, Rebekah F. and husband, Chad M. Shoemaker of Dover; two grandsons, Creed E. and Cade M. Shoemaker; two brothers, Scott R. Morton of Dallastown and Richard E. and wife, Shanda Morton of Wrightsville; two sisters, Beth A. and husband, Rick Weymer of Strasburg, and Janis E. Morton of Chambersburg; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Zack E. Morton. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mount Joy, PA 17552.
