John L. Jack" Bobkowski

TROY- John L. "Jack" Bobkowski, 86, of Troy, PA, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2007 at the Bradford County Manor. He was the loving husband of the late Mary C. (McKeown) Bobkowski, who passed away on April 4, 2007. Family and friends are welcome to call from 9:00-10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 26, 2007 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the viewing at 11:00 A.M. on October 26th at St. John's Catholic Church, Exchange and High Street, Troy, PA, with Father Alfhones Perikala officiating. Burial will follow the service in St. Johns Cemetery with military rites given by the Troy Veterans Honor Guard. Jack was born on March 8, 1921 in Shamokin, PA. He was the son of the late Leon and Josephine (Nowiczki) Bobkowski. Jack was a World War II Army veteran, serving from North Africa into Italy. He earned several decorations and citations. They include the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Silver and Bronze Star Medals, Combat Infantry Badge, European African Middle Eastern Medal with 3 Stars, and a Purple Heart Medal. Jack graduated from Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre in 1938 and Mansfield University in 1948, and was the star quarterback for the Mansfield football team. After graduation Jack taught history for Troy High School, and was the Troy High School football coach. He was a member of both the Troy VFW Post #8675 and Troy American Legion Post #49, was a past member of the Troy Lion's Club, Troy's Faculty Lodge, and Corey Creek Golf Club, and was a PIAA Football Official. He was also a faithful member of St John's Catholic Church in Troy. Jack is survived by his son John D. "Jack" Bobkowski of Sayre, PA, his daughter Maurita "Maurie" Bobkowski of Folsom, PA, his brother Edwin W. Bobkowski of Torrington, CT, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents, and his brothers and sisters; Lewis, Anna, Clara, Adolph, Frank, Albert, Leon, Henry, Rita.
