John L. Hershey

John L. Hershey, 83, died on Monday, September 18, 2017 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Faye N. (Young) Hershey to whom he was married for 58 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with Pastor Robert Pickering officiating. A viewing will be from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Winterstown U.B. Cemetery with a flag folding ceremony presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born on September 15, 1934 in Fawn Twp., he was a son of the late Roy J. and Beulah (Shenk) Hershey. John was a welder for AMF and Harley Davidson until his retirement in 2000. Mr. Hershey served our country for three years in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Hershey was a member of Prospect U.M. Church. He was also a member of Red Lion American Legion Post 543. John was an avid Penn State and Green Bay Packers fan and loved to fish, hunt and target shoot. He qualified as an expert marksman during his service in the Marine Corps. Most importantly, he was a proud father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. Along with his wife, Faye, Mr. Hershey is survived by one son, Mark Hershey of Denver, CO; two daughters, Lori Hershey Uhl and husband, Werner of Glennville and Jale Hershey Ramsey and husband, Douglas of Lyndhurst, VA; five grandchildren, Clarhens Uhl and wife, Akai, Garrett Hershey, Cole Ramsey, Kate Ramsey and Hannah Uhl; two step great grandchildren, Shannea Williams and Kimya Williams and one brother, Jim Hershey and wife, Donna of New Park. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Scott. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
