John L. Gennerella John L. Gennerella, 87, resident of Providence Place, Pottsville, passed away Wednesday morning at Providence Place. Born in Jalappa on January 19, 1921 he was the son of the late Bruno and Louise Palumbo Gennerella. He was a 1938 graduate of Pottsville High School. He was retired from Acme Fast Freight. He was an Air Corps veteran during World War II, having enlisted in Nov. of 1940. He was discharged January, 1946 as a 1st Sergeant. Overseas in China, he served as a 1st sergeant of the 452nd fighter squadron and was a member of 402nd fighter group with the Flying Tigers under General Chenauldt. He was a life member of the Humane Fire Co., American Legion, VFW, Catholic War Veterans, all of Pottsville. He was a former member of the AMOR Fraternal Society. He was a member of the Hidden Valley Seniors Golf League. As a musician, he played with various local groups such as Big Bands Ray Brown, Norman Dropkin and Tiny May. He studied under piano instructors Lee Berger, Red Springer and Dr. Braun. He also played and sang at various Nursing homes and assisted living facilities. He was a member of the Bakers Dozen, the Schuylkill Haven Seniors Group and the Musicians Union. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Ball) Gennerella, who passed away October 7, 1999; his two brothers, Ferdinand and Roberto Gennerella. He is survived by his daughter, Martina L. Breiner, wife of David, of Schuylkill Haven; his two sons, John Gennerella, of Bellingham, WA and Robert P. Gennerella, husband of Natalie, of Orwigsburg; five Grandchildren, Angela, Alexandra, Jodie and Jeff Gennerella and Teri Breiner; his brother, Bruno Gennerella, of Port Carbon; several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 A.M. from St. Joseph's Church, Pottsville. The Reverend Edward B. Connolly will officiate. Family and friends may call at the church on Friday morning from 8:30 A.M. until time of Mass. Interment with Military Honors will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hillside, Pottsville. Memorial contributions can be made to either: The American Cancer Society, 16 North 4th St., Minersville, PA 17954, or The American Heart Assoc., 25 Stevens Ave, West lawn, PA 19609, or Providence Place, 2200 First Ave, Pottsville, Pa 17901.
