John Joseph Chisdock

AVOCA-John Joseph Chisdock, 88, of Moosic, passed away Monday evening at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Moosic on May 7, 1922, he was a son of the late Peter and Mary (Nashelnick) Chisdock. He was a graduate of Moosic High School and a United States Air Force Veteran of World War II, having served with 592nd AAF Base Unit in the Azors. John was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Old Forge. He was a former member of the VFW and American Legion. He liked fishing, going to the casino, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was very proud of his military service. Prior to retiring, in 1981, he was employed by A & P as a meat department supervisor. His wife of 52 years, the former Madeleine Ratte, passed away September 5, 1998. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Michael and a child, Peter; sister Ann Koveleski. Surviving are his son, John James Chisdock and his wife, Mary Theresa; daughter Karen Ort and her husband John; grandchildren Cristin Hogan and husband John; Sara Hogan and her husband Ryan; Matthew Chisdock, Rachel Ort and Paul Ort; brother Peter Chisdock; sister Helen Miller. The funeral will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Kniffen OMalley Funeral Home, Inc., 728 Main Street, Avoca, with Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 140 Church Street, Old Forge. The Reverend Gary Mensinger will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Parastas service will be at 5:00 p.m. The family would also like to give special thanks to his caregivers, Agnes and Walter Beres. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Thomas Jerome House (home for soldiers with traumatic brain injuries), 11 Innocenzi Dr., Hamilton Square, NJ 08690.
