RED LION - John I. Bucher, 79, died Friday, February 24, 2012 at his residence. He was the husband of Estella R. (Norris) Bucher. The couple celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on September 12, 2011. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church, 220 N. Charles Street in Red Lion, with a viewing from 9:30-11 a.m. His pastor, The Reverend Dr. William H. Cluley will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in New Harmony Presbyterian Cemetery in Brogue. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Bucher was born in Hanover on July 11, 1932, son of the late Clark L. and Naomi E. (Wackerman) Bucher. He worked as a machine designer for Morehouse Instrument Company in York. He then opened his own business, John Bucher Instruments, in Red Lion until his retirement. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Red Lion, a 1951 graduate of Littlestown High School and a graduate of Penn State York. He served a year on the Red Lion Borough Council, was a Boy Scout Committee Leader, and was a member of the Red Lion Jaycee’s and Red Lion Lions Club. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Along with his wife Estella, Mr. Bucher leaves two sons, David S. Bucher of Downingtown and Jim Bucher of Glen Rock; a daughter, Holly S. Barker of York; five grandchildren, Kate, Samantha, Jared, Dustin, and Rachel; and two brothers, Thomas Bucher of McSherrystown and Kenneth Bucher of Gettysburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 220 N. Charles Street, Red Lion, PA 17356.
