John Henry Brenneman, Jr.

YORK- John Henry Brenneman, Jr., 87, died on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Phyllis D. (Detwiler) Brenneman and the late Gloria E. (Wolfgang) Brenneman. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2012, at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, with the Reverend Owen Walter officiating. A visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Born on June 28, 1925, he was a son of the late John H. and Verna (Lentz) Brenneman. John was a 1943 graduate of West York High School. He attended Cornell University in the Navy V-12 Program in 1944 and served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945. After his services to our country, he graduated from York Junior College in 1948 and from the University of Maryland in 1950. In 1950, he pursued a career in dairy manufacturing in the field of quality control. John spent the next 37 years employed by Penn Supreme and Rutter’s Dairy. Mr. Brenneman was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church for over 50 years. His other memberships included the Hawk Gunning Club, Shiloh Legion, Lion's Club, Dairy Laboratory Directors, S.E., and PA Dairy Inspectors' Association. John’s Masonic affiliations included the York Lodge #266, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, York County Shrine Club, and Zembo Shriners. He enjoyed painting, golf, bowling, and fishing. Mr. Brenneman is survived by two sons, John Brenneman III and his wife, Cyndy, of Rockville, MD and Eric Brenneman and his wife, Lisa Fairbanks Brenneman, of Damascus, MD; one daughter, Jamie Winslow and her husband, Russell, of Annandale, NJ; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a brother, William Brenneman and his wife, Marie, of York. Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah United Methodist Church, 1300 N. Beaver St., York, PA 17404.
