John H. Shue

YORK- John H. Shue, Jr., 82, died at Memorial Hospital Sunday July 13, 2008. He was the loving husband of Doris M. (Shaffer) Shue. A Celebration of Life Tribute service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York. A viewing will also be Wednesday at the funeral home from 10 to 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. H. Gene Reichel officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors provided by the Dallastown American Legion Post# 609 Honor Guard. John was born in Hanover on March 10, 1926, a son of the late John H., Sr. and Ida S. (Lightner) Shue. He was a graduate of Hanover High School where he was the state champion in the 440-yard dash his senior year in track. John was employed at Caterpillar Inc. for 30 years until he retired in 1984 from the purchasing department. He served as a president for Caterpillar Retiree's. John was a coach for EYC football and the first president of York Little League. He was a member of VFW Post 1446 and Hawk Gunning Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. John was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, York. In addition to Doris, John is survived by a son, Scott Shue of York; a daughter, Sally and her husband Scott Goodling of York; and two grandchildren, Matt and Andy Goodling, also of York. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made in John's honor to the American Heart Association or the American Stroke Association, both at 140 Roosevelt Ave., Ste.208, York, PA 17401.
