John H. Eckenrode

York—John H. Eckenrode Sr, 73, died Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Bonnie A. (Fortune) Eckenrode to whom he was married for 43 years. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Monday, February 26, 2007 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York. Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m., Monday, at the funeral chapel. Mr. Eckenrode was born February 20, 1934 in Carroll County, MD., a son of late Harry D. Eckenrode Sr., and Orly (Stevens) Lehr. He was employed with New York Wire for 13 years as a Wire Inspector until his retirement in 1999. Previously he worked at Rentex Industrial Laundry for 30 years. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing with his son and grandson. In addition to his wife, Mr. Eckenrode is also survived by one son, John H. Eckenrode Jr., of York, four daughters, Patty E. Lutke of E. Prospect, Sandy L. Latchaw of Dover, Wendy S. Harder of York and Lynn A. Eckenrode of York, eight grandchildren, Kelly, Stephanie, Jennifer, John Alvin, Kevin, Trisha, Mandy, John Allen and Kyle, four great-grandchildren, Austin, Anthony, Haylln and Kylie, two sisters, Anna Swartz of Dover and Kathryn Fulcomer of Mt. Wolf. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jeana Marie, three brothers, Roland, Harry and Maurice, and one sister, Bessie Toomey.
