John H. Amspacker, Sr.

BROGUE - John H. Amspacker, Sr., 89, of Chanceford Twp., died at 2:15 a.m. Sunday, June 21, 2009 at the Dallastown Nursing Center. He was the husband of Edna M. (Daugherty) Amspacker with whom he observed a 68th wedding anniversary on January 29th. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with the Rev. John B. Ferra, Sr., interim pastor of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in New Harmony Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Viewing will be 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Amspacker was born at home on his family's farm in Chanceford Twp. He was the son of the late John N. and Cora (Warner) Amspacker. As a child, Mr. Amspacker grew up helping his father with chores around the farm and later assumed full responsibility for its operation. He was a life-long farmer and continued working the land until his health no longer permitted him to do so. He was a former member of New Harmony Presbyterian Church and was a life member of the Pennsylvania Game Commission. In addition to his wife, Mr. Amspacker leaves his eight daughters, Martha Sonntag and husband, Jay of Baltimore, Ruth Barrett and husband, John of York, Rachael Stein and husband, Paul, Sr. of York, Sarah Patterson and husband, Randall of Felton, Patricia Amspacker and friend, Jan Grove of Felton, Louella Ruff and husband, Edward of Felton, Leah Rosario and husband, Ramon of York, and Kristina Amspacker of Hanover; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Neubauer and his son, John H. Amspacker, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Ave., York, Pa 17403 or to St. James Lutheran Church, 2335 Cramer Rd., Brogue, PA 17309-9490.
