WILLIAMSPORT - John G. Hancock, 83, died on Monday, September 8, 2014 at Manor Care Health Services, South. John was married to the former Donna J. Knorr, who survives, on July 10, 1954 and celebrated 60 years together this year. John was born on August 31, 1931 in Berwick and was the son of the late James A. and Isabel (Milroy) Hancock. He had graduated from Berwick High School in 1950, received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Accounting and Psychology from Bucknell University and then received his Doctorate in Psychology from Penn State. He was a veteran of the US Army, served during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan as a military policeman. Throughout his teaching career, John had taught at Courtland, New York and Lycoming College and retired in 1998. He was head of the Pysch Department at Lycoming College, served on the American Red Cross and Pennsylvania Human Relations Boards and was the director/coordinator with the Red Cross for disasters in the Lycoming County and the Mid Atlantic Regions. In addition to his wife Donna, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; Brian P. Hancock and Virginia Kopkash of Tuckerton, NJ, one daughter and son-in-law; Karen L. and James Grentz of Williamsport, five grandchildren; John J. Grentz, Keith J. Grentz, Jessica A. Grentz, Lindsey Hancock and Heather Hancock and one sister and brother-in-law; Berniece and Donald Hutchinson of Depford, NJ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son; Stephen J. Hancock, one daughter; Leighann Hancock and one brother; James Hancock. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St., Williamsport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 320 E. 3rd St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
