DOVER- John G. Freeze, Jr., 80 passed away, January 7, 2011 at Colonial Manor with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Messersmith) Freeze to whom he was married for 36 years on December 27, 2010. A celebration of life service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with the Rev. Catherine E. Boileau officiating. A viewing will be held 9-10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenmount Cemetery with full military rites provided for by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Freeze was born January 4, 1931 in York a son of the late John G., Sr., and Grace (Karns) Freeze. He was a former truck driver for Borger Steel until his retirement in 1992. He also owned and operated the Wrightsville Inn Restaurant from 1973-1978. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country for three years during the Korean War in the 24th infantry division. He was a member of the 13th Ward; American Legion, Shiloh; VFW Post #8951; Liberty Club; and Hawks Gunning Club. Mr. Freeze enjoyed watching football; NASCAR, sprint, and motorcycle racing; and going boating when he lived in Wrightsville. He often visited car and antique auctions; and worked on fixing cars and lawn mowers. In his younger years he enjoyed racing motorcycles and cars, and was always #99; and in his later years he took pleasure in spending time with his family, grandchildren and German Sheppard, Shadow. In addition to his wife, Mr. Freeze is survived by two sons, Jeff A. Freeze and wife Lynn R. of East Manchester Twp., Leroy G. Messersmith and wife, Lynn of Dover Twp.; two daughters, Sandra E. Geesey of Dover, and Lisa A. Washington of Dallastown; three grandchildren, Joshua A. Freeze and Tonya and Randy Messersmith; five great grandchildren; a brother, Ronnie Freeze and wife, Randy of Dallas, TX; a sister, Shirley Eppley of York; and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, John Gross Freeze, III.
