John F. Lighty

YORK- John F. Lighty, 86 of Springettsbury Twp., died Thursday morning at Pleasant Acres Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was the loving husband of Helen I. (Dellinger) Lighty. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage on July 3, 2008. A viewing will be on Monday at 10 to 11:00 am at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion. A graveside tribute service will immediately follow at Bethel United Methodist Cemetery, 1674 Furnace Rd., Brogue with Rev. Sue Oelrich, Chaplain of Pleasant Acres Nursing officiating. Mr. Lighty was born in Chanceford Twp. on May 19, 1922, a son of the late Benjamin F. and Minnie E. (Forry) Lighty. He was a 1938 graduate of Red Lion High school. In 1945, Mr. Lighty started with the former George F. Motter's Sons as a mechanic. He retired from John C. Motter Printing Press Co. as a Department Foreman in 1984. Mr. Lighty was an avid fisher and hunter. Surviving Mr. Lighty are two sons, Benjamin Lighty of York and Brice Lighty and his wife Angela of Grapevine, TX; three daughters, Linda Abel and her husband Abraham of Wrightsville, Connie Silar of Craley, and Glenda McCarty and her husband Harlan of Inglewood, FL; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a sister, Mary Hively of Felton; and nieces and nephews. A son, Preston Lighty, a son-in-law, Gary Silar, and a brother-in-law, Paul Hively precede him in death. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Cemetery Association, 2180 Delta Rd., Brogue, PA 17309.
