John E. Spahr

DOVER John E. Spahr, 87, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 PM Monday, December 20, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. A viewing will be held from 1-2 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Paradise (Holtzschwamm) Union Cemetery following the service. Mr. Spahr was born August 1, 1923 a son of the late Reuben E. and Goldie S. (Myers) Spahr. He worked as a turbine manufacturer at Voith (formerly Allis Chalmers) for 31 years until his retirement on May 31, 1983. Mr. Spahr was a member of the Mechanist Unions 1400 and 1403, a life member of Weigelstown Community Fire Co., and Allis Chalmers Retirement Club. Mr. Spahr is survived by two daughters, Linda M. Anderson and husband Elwood of Spring Grove and Gail A. Wilkinson and husband Harry of Ocean City, Md.; 8 grandchildren; 16 Great-grandchildren; 1 Great Great-grandchild; and one sister, Margaret R. Strambaugh of York. He was preceded in death by 2 former spouses, Viola M. (Hoshall) Spahr and Mae L. (Frey) Spahr; and one sister Mary L. Geiselman.
