John E. Shanbarger

Felton—John E. Shanbarger, Sr., 95, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Manor Care Health Services-Dallastown. He was the husband of the late Fern E. (Eveler) Shanbarger to whom he was married for 72 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 1:30PM, Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with his grandson, Bishop Matthew Thompson officiating. A viewing will be held from 12:30-1:30PM at the funeral home. Burial will be held in St. James Lutheran Cemetery. Born December 10, 1922 in Peach Bottom Township, he was a son of the late Harry J. and Iola I. (Scott) Shanbarger. He was employed as a millwright with Local #191 Carpenters Millwright Union for many years. John previously worked at Ed Ruff Canning and as a tenant farmer. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wyoming and fishing. He operated a vegetable truck farm, liked gardening and attended Mt. Pleasant (Buckwheat) 1 room school and Bryansville 2 room school. Mr. Shanbarger is survived by two sons, John E. Shanbarger, Jr and his wife, Joyce and Michael H. Shanbarger and his wife, Debra both of Felton; two daughters, Darlene I. Thompson of Felton and Mary E. Grim and her husband, Steven of Felton; 11 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two children, Paul Shanbarger and an infant son; son-in-law, Richard Thompson and one brother, Henry Shanbarger.
