ETTERS - John E. Deardorff, 73, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2010 at his residence. He was the husband of Terrie D. (Goodling) Deardorff to whom he was married for 47 years. A gathering of friends be held from 7-9:00 PM Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Beaver Urich Funeral Home, Inc., 305 West Front Street, Lewisberry. Private burial will be in Emanuel Cemetery. Born April 6, 1937 in Newberry Twp., a son of the late William M. and Edna V. (Albright) Deardorff, he owned and operated John E. Deardorff Excavating and also owned JED Self Storage. Prior to being in business for himself, Mr. Deardorff worked for Paul L. Smith Builder and the former Stewart and March, Inc. He was past president and member of PA Land Improvers and Contractors Assoc.; Seven Mountains Blue Grass Assoc.; Williams Grove Steam Engines Assoc.; and National Small Business Assoc. Mr. Deardorff had attended Diehl's one room school house located outside of Newberrytown as a child and continued to help coordinate annual reunions with his fellow classmates, as well as, with his New Cumberland High School class. Mr. Deardorff served as a medic with the US Air Force during the Korean War. He completed his training at Sampson AFB and was later stationed at Chanute AFB in Illinois. In addition to his wife, Mr. Deardorff is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. and husband Mike Hoffman of Camp Hill; a son, William E. Deardorff of Wellsville and his companion Lorri Bupp; two grandsons, Joseph and Jason Bupp; a brother, Harold Deardorff of Lewisberry; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Deardorff; and a sister, Betty Deardorff.
