SEVEN VALLEYS- John Donald Hoerr, Sr., 88, died on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Patricia J. (Olphin) Hoerr to whom he was married 68 years until her passing.
A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with the Reverend David Stough officiating. A viewing will be from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Dallastown Union Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
Born on July 2, 1935 in Baltimore, he was a son of the late William and Helen (Kauffman) Hoerr.
John founded and owned multiple successful businesses including John’s Antenna Service, John Hoerr Builders, Red Lion Carpet, and 74 S. Auto Sales.
Mr. Hoerr was a member of Bethlehem Life Church in Dallastown. He was an avid sports fan who loved baseball, football, and NASCAR and enjoyed watching Westerns.
Mr. Hoerr served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the 11th Airborne Division.
John is survived by two sons, James M. Hoerr and his wife, Judy of Airville and Daniel S. Hoerr and his girlfriend, Christine Emma of Windsor; two daughters, Judy A. Sterner and her husband, Michael of Seven Valleys and Jeri B. Dettinger and her husband, Lonnie of Red Lion; eight grandchildren, Travis, Jen, Matt, Jonathan, Jordan, Britt, Caity and Micah; ten great grandchildren, Gretta, Ty, Sarah, Eric, Jacob, Jackson, Scarlett, Emmett, Jaxson and Patrick; three brothers, Thomas Hoerr of TN, Charles Hoerr and his wife, Marge of MD and Robert Hoerr and his wife, Sue of FL; daughter in law, Chris Hoerr; and his loyal right hand man through his many business ventures, Lester Witmer of Red Lion. He was preceded in death by his son, John D. Hoerr, Jr.; and several siblings.
