John Dennis Weiss

POTTSVILLE - John Dennis Weiss, 80, of Pottsville, passed away Thursday evening at Schuylkill Medical Center- east Norwegian Street, Pottsville. Born in Pottsville on May 11, 1928, he was a son of the late Dennis and Anna Scheibelhut Weiss. John was a 1949 graduate of Pottsville High School. He was a member of the 1948 football team that completed an undefeated season. He served in the artillery division of the Army having served during the Korean war. He retired from the former Allied Chemical, Mar-lin. He was the 2nd employee hired when Allied Chemical opened. He was a member of the former St. Joseph Church, Pottsville. He was recently a member of St. Patrick's Church, Pottsville. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Ruth Musalavage and Dorothy Adamavage. John is survived by his loving wife, Frances DeMatteo Weiss, Pottsville, to whom he married on May 3rd, 57 years ago; his son, Dennis J. Weiss, husband of Reta, of Murfreesboro, TN; his daughter, Mary Jo Weiss, of Pottsville; his four grandchildren, John D. and Catherine Weiss, Chattanooga, TN, Michael Weiss, of Pottsville, and Joseph Weiss, of Murfreesboro, TN; his great granddaughter, Lyla Grace Weiss, of Chattanooga, TN; several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning at 11:00 A.M. in St. Patrick's Church, Mahantongo Street, Pottsville. Friends may call on Monday morning from 10:00 A.M. until time of Mass at the church. Interment with military honors will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hillside, Pottsville.
