John C. Sloat

YORK - John C. Sloat, 48, passed away Saturday October 11, 2008 at his residence. He was the husband of Teresa A. (Loucks) Sloat to whom he was married for 13 years on Sept. 16, 2008. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. A viewing will be held from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Suburban Memorial Gardens. Born November 23, 1959 in Hellam, a son of the late Stewart F. and Mabel P. (Fahringer) Sloat, he was a graduate of the former York Vo-Tech. Mr. Sloat was a lifelong farmer and had also previously worked at Heil Co. in Lancaster for over 20 yrs. John was a member of the PA Farm Bureau and enjoyed working on the family farm; as well as; hunting, fishing, and gardening. In addition to his wife Teresa, Mr. Sloat is survived by three brothers, Stewart "Bill" and wife Mary Ann Sloat of Lancaster, Paul Sloat and James Sloat both of York; two sisters, Doris Sloat of Hellam and Rose and husband Virgil Crane of York; three nephews, Michael and Barry Sloat, and Franklin Brechbill. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Martin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Assoc., 140 Roosevelt Ave., Suite 208, York, PA 17401.
