ALLENWOOD - John C. Nields, 67, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Manor Care North, Williamsport. John was born in Gloucester, NJ on May 1, 1942 and was the only son of John C. and Helene (Backus) Nields. He and his wife, the former Brenda (Webb) from Oxford England, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on September 22, 2009. John was a 1960 graduate of the Williamsport High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam War. John was an ironworker with the Ironworkers Local Union #404 where he had worked for over 20 years. He had retired in 1985 due to injuries from an on the job accident. Recently, he worked as a security guard for Securitas Security Co. John was a member of the American Legion, Eugene Grafius Post 104 Montoursville. He had many friends and was liked by everyone. He loved to dance, ride motor cross when he was younger, enjoyed camping out, watching birds, looking at the stars and being near the ocean. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons; John C. Nields of Williamsport, Philip D. Nields of Montoursville and Timothy M. Nields of Virginia, three stepsons; Ronald J. Edkin of California, Tracy A. Edkin of Williamsport and Joseph A. Pulizzi of Florida, eighteen grandchildren, two sisters; Peg Colt of Maryland and Gloria Taylor of New Jersey and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister; Pat Bower and one step son; Johnny J. Edkin. In keeping with John's wishes, services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Christian Church, P.O. Box 34, Rt. 15, Allenwood, PA 17810 or to the Disabled American Veterans Association, P.O. box 14301, Cincinnati, OH, 45250-0301. John will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. "God saw him getting tired, a cure not meant to be, so he put his arms around him and whispered, Come with me." Arrangements are being handled by the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
