John C. Knaub

John C. Knaub, Jr., 79, died in his home Sunday, April 20, 2008. He was the husband of Sarah Ann (Strayer) Knaub of York. Born in the home of his grandmother in York on July 8, 1928, he was the son of J. Clayton Knaub and Edna Hibner Knaub. He graduated from William Penn High School in 1946 and was a long-time sales coordinator for Pitman Manufacturing Company. Mr. Knaub was a member of York Lodge #266 Free and Accepted Masons, Harrisburg Consistory Scottish Rite, Tall Cedars of Lebanon York Forest #30, York-Springetts AARP #3400, St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Men's Club of York County. He served as an advisor to Continental Chapter Order of DeMolay and was past-president of the Strayer Family Reunion, Mr. Knaub was also an avid collector and maker of toy soldiers and began acrylic painting after his 75th birthday. In addition to his wife of 52 years, Mr. Knaub's survivors include daughter Sue A. Maple and son-in-law Steven Maple of Indianapolis; sons John W. Knaub of Durham, NC, and James E. Knaub of Phoenixville; and five grandchildren: Carissa Berglund of Whitsett, NC, Olivia Maple and Amanda Maple of Indianapolis and Samuel Knaub and Cecilia Knaub of Phoenixville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24th, at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc, 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, with the Reverend Kevin T. Shively officiating. There will be a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home, followed by Masonic Rites at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Lutheran Men's Club of York County, 611 Denny Lane, York, PA 17406, or the capital building fund of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 West Market Street, York PA 17401.
