John C. Bowser, Jr.

YORK- John C. Bowser, Jr., 87, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Manor Care North. He was the husband of Ruthanna (Phillips) Bowser, to whom he was married to for 67 years. Services are private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Born on February 7, 1925 in West York, John was a son of the late Della Smith. He went to West York High School where he starred in football and wrestling.. John worked for 70 years at Stumps Hardware, Green’s Dairy, Senft Brothers Potato Chips, Shaull’s Oldsmobile and Apple Chevrolet. Mr. Bowser was a lifelong member of First Church of the Brethren. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2007. John loved his family, his church and the Hershey Bears. Along with his wife, Ruthanna, John is survived by two sons, Dennis Bowser of York and Gary Bowser and his wife, Nancy of Burke, VA; two grandsons, Brian Bowser and Kevin Bowser; and a sister, Loretta Royer of Mechanicsburg. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ken Bowser, Roy Bowser, and Carl Bowser.
