John Bryan Pappy" Shaffer, Jr.

MILTON-John Bryan "Pappy" Shaffer, Jr., 84, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Kramm Healthcare- Milton. He was the loving husband of the late Ida I. (Jordan) Shaffer who passed away in 1994. Pappy was born on January 30, 1924 in Milton, son of the late John B. and Mary (Stevenson) Shaffer, Sr. He served his country in the United States Army 79th Infantry Division during World War II. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct and Purple Heart Medals after his service in the European and Rhineland campaigns. Pappy retired from American Home Foods (Con Agra) in 1989 after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Milton American Legion Post #71, Milton VFW Post #1665, was a 50 year member of the Milton Moose, and his favorite pastime was watching sports, the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Yankees, and Philadelphia Phillies being his favorites. Pappy's life was his family; He cared for and loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart. Pappy is survived by his sons Allen Kleckner of Berwick and Kevin Shaffer of Potts Grove, his daughters Glenna Neitz of Newark, DE and Faith King of New Columbia, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, sisters Caroline Guinn-Bailey of Lewisburg and Bessie Apple of Danville. Pappy is preceded in death by his parents and wife, a granddaughter Judy Neitz, a brother Milton Shaffer, and his 3 sisters Dorene Wilson, Jennie Harris and Sharon L. Shaffer. Friends and family may gather from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, Inc. 125 N. Front St. Milton, PA. The funeral service to honor Pappy's life will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, October 22nd at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Moore officiating. Burial will follow the service in Harmony Cemetery with military rites given by the Milton American Legion Honor Guard. Contributions may be made in Pappy's name to the Milton Little League, Inc. Brown Ave. Park, Milton, PA 17847 or to American Legion Post #401, 401 Front St. Milton, PA 17847 or to VFW Post #1665, 300 Park Ave Milton, PA 17847.
