John A. Runkle, Jr.

FELTON – John A. Runkle, Jr., 69, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Mary E. (Craley) Runkle to whom he was married for 43 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Rev. Daniel R. Moore officiating. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 Thursday at the Funeral Home. Born April 14, 1945 in York a son of the late John A. and Alvena (Grove) Runkle, he was a 1963 graduate of Red Lion Area High School. He then served four years with the Army National Guard. Mr. Runkle retired from York International in 2004 after 38 years of service. He was a member of Bethany Felton United Methodist Church, Red Lion American Legion, Red Lion Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and UAW Union. Mr. Runkle enjoyed spending time keeping his yard meticulous with his multiple pristine John Deere garden tractors. John would often say that he only needed his wife, grandchildren, family, and friends in his life to be happy. In addition to his wife, Mr. Runkle is survived by a son, Dwayne A. and wife Wendy Runkle of Felton; two grandchildren, Cale and Jillian Runkle; a brother, William and wife Sandy Runkle of Felton; two sisters, Jackie and husband Charlie Silar of Red Lion and Lucy and husband George Miller of Felton; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Felton U.M., 49 High St., Felton, PA 17322 or to Guinston Presbyterian Church, 14130 Guinston Forge Rd., Airville, PA 17302.
