YORK- John Austin Gladfelter, 100, of West Manchester Township, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 24, 2021 at his daughter & son-in-law’s residence. He was the wife of the late June M. (Gross) Gladfelter. Burial will be private in Prospect Hill Cemetery in York. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Gladfelter was born in York on July 20, 1920, the son of the late John and Mary (Crumbling) Gladfelter. He retired from AMF/Harley Davidson. Mr. Gladfelter was a 1938 graduate of North York High School. He threw multiple no-hitters in his senior year. He was to be drafted to the NY Yankees, but got called off to war. He pitched for numerous amateur baseball leagues in the York area. He was a life-long New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed working with his daughter and son-in-law’s auction; Thomasville Country Auction until he was 96. He served in the US Army in WWII as a Master Sargent. Mr. Gladfelter leaves three daughters, Sheryl J. Hooks, Sandra J. Spahr, and Sharon J. Gladfelter; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two sisters, Norka and Janice. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Jones. Sheryl & Jack want to thank all the care givers that were so kind to dad during the past 4 yrs.
