BETHLEHEM, PA – Joel Eli Sponsler, 88, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Country Meadows of Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Doris E. (Warner) Sponsler. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 22, 2013 at Faith United Church of Christ, 509 Pacific Avenue, York with his pastor, The Rev. Ron Oelrich and family friend, Rev. Jan Lookingbill officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11:00 AM Friday at the Church. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with full military rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born September 12, 1924 in Lower Allen Twp., Cumberland Co. a son of the late Eli M. and Ethel P. (Forry) Sponsler, he retired from Met-Ed in 1987. Mr. Sponsler was a member of Faith UCC and its Young Faith Sunday School Class, West Manchester Mall walkers, Met-Ed GPU Retirees, and volunteered at the Salvation Army. He was a life member of the Viking Athletic Assoc., and member at Shiloh American Legion Post 791 and York Memorial VFW 8951. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII. Mr. Sponsler is survived by a daughter, Linda K. and husband Edward Cassel of Bethlehem; a son, Robert J. and wife Michelle Sponsler of Jacksonville, FL; two granddaughters, Jennifer and husband Brian Dunne and Julie and husband Scott Bailey; three great granddaughters; two great grandsons; a sister Jane Mann of Mechanicsburg, and nieces and nephews.
