Joanne M. Ryer

RED LION- JoAnne M. (McLane) Ryer, 83, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Rest Haven in York. She was the wife of Robert F. Ryer. The couple celebrated 62 years of marriage on September 6, 2020. A public visitation will be held from 1 -2 pm on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion, with a private service that can be viewed on the Olewiler and Heffner Facebook page, www.facebook.com/olewilertributes/live starting at about 2:30 p.m. Burial will be private in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Born December 3, 1937, in York, she was the daughter of the late David McLane and Margaret (Hollinger) Saxon. JoAnne enjoyed spending time with her family, especially at the pool. One of her favorite pastimes was gardening and looking at flowers. She also enjoyed singing, dancing, and collecting dolls. JoAnne worked for Bendix where she assembled parts for missiles. After that she worked as a beautician. Then she became a licensed practical nurse and worked for Dr. Lebouitz. Later, she worked for Red Lion School district as a nurse where she later retired. Mrs. Ryer is survived by six daughters, Marci DeShong (Brett), Kathy Thomas (Brad), Sara Belanger (Kyle), Tina Ryer, Savanna Ryer, and April Montanez; a son, Dana Ryer (Michelle); two brothers, Loren McLane and Butch McLane; and three sisters; Jackie Creasy, Orpha Lehr, Sharon Royston; along with ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and four great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Ryer II; a daughter, Marcene Burk; a brother, David “Hurk” McLane; and four sisters, Alice Barshinger, Mary Kathryn Ahrens, Patricia Kline, and Shirley McLane.
