Joanne Louise Knott

JoAnne Louise (Hauer) Knott, age 85 passed away April, 7, 2024. She was the wife of Gary L. Knott, to whom she had been married for 62 years.


JoAnne was born October 27, 1938, in York, PA. She was the daughter of the late Thurlow and Viola (Spangler) Hauer.


She graduated in 1956 from Central York High School. Her hobbies were roller skating and dancing with her husband. She enjoyed cards in her girl’s card club.


JoAnne volunteered for the American Cancer Society for 30 years. She was a coordinator and driver in the “Road to Recovery” program taking patients to radiation and chemotherapy appointments. She was also a member of the American Cancer Society Auxiliary Board and helped with Daffodil Days many years.


She also, along with her husband, volunteered for the Multiple Sclerosis Walk for 25 years.


JoAnne is survived by two children. A son Troy L. Knott and his wife Donna of York, and a daughter Jane L. (Knott) Concino and her husband Dave of Hanover. JoAnne and Gary never missed a sporting event or activity in which their children participated.


She is also survived by her granddaughter Alesia (Knott) Duffee and her husband Michael, two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Liliana Duffee of Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her brother, Gene L. Hauer and sister-in-law Vivian, and her sister Shirley A. Smith.


JoAnne was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in York. She and her husband enjoyed going to West York High School sporting events, especially the West York Girls Basketball and Volleyball games. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She absolutely adored her family.


The family would like to thank Dr. Mike Wilson, who provided attentive and compassionate care to JoAnne throughout the past several years. We would also like to thank Dr. Dan Sotirescu and Katilin Gibson and the rest of the Cancer Care Associates of York team for the care that was provided during her battle with AML. The staff at Country Meadows in Shiloh has been a blessing to our entire family and we are thankful for their loving care. Finally, thank you to LifeSong Hospice for the wonderful care and support provided the last week of JoAnne’s life.


A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Zion United Methodist Church, 1030 Carlisle Road, York, PA 17408. Visitation will be held before the service at 10:00 AM. A light luncheon will immediately follow the service. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements.
