Joanne A. Waltmyer

DALLASTOWN--It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Joanne Ailean Waltmyer on January 20th, 2022, just days before her 86th birthday. She was born in Dallastown, graduated from Dallastown Area High School in 1954, and returned to Dallastown for her final days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sterling and Margaret Hildebrand, her husband of 47 years, Carlton Waltmyer, her beloved son, Joel Waltmyer, and her brother, Gerald Hildebrand. Joanne leaves behind to cherish her memory; her daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Derwyn Walter, her grandsons, Charles Walter and Ross Walter (Tej), and her great-grandson, John Walter, who she was so happy to meet and hold in November 2021. She loved to talk and Facetime with her grandsons after she moved to Florida. She leaves her brother, Dean Hildebrand of Georgia. She also leaves her partner in life and love for the past 20 years, Louis B. Wolf, and considered his family as her own. They moved to Frostproof, Florida and enjoyed the warm weather, cruises, camping, strawberry sundaes at Parkesdale, and playing Dominoes with great friends. She worked at the family business, Waltmyer’s grocery in Dallastown. She drove bus for Joel’s school, and ended her work career as a tooth molder at Dentsply International. Joanne took care of everyone. She had immense faith, strong political beliefs, and a love that ran deep. She was strong and never complained. Her strength, most recently demonstrated in completing a 15-hour trip by car and plane to be back home in Dallastown, the Sunday before she passed. She will always remain in our hearts and her memory will keep us strong. A memorial service will be held at a later, warmer date.
