TROY- Joanna (Chaapel) Chapman, 80, resident of the Bradford County Manor and longtime resident of Columbia Crossroads and Troy, PA, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Troy Community Hospital. Joanna was the loving wife of the late James E. Chapman who passed away on September 13, 1994. The couple had 46 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to gather from 2:00-3:00 PM on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. A memorial service to honor Joanna's life will be held at 3:00 PM on February 24th at the funeral home with long time family friend, Rev. Jasper Smith, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Columbia Valley Cemetery. Joanna was born on December 25, 1927 in Canton, PA. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Alma (Colton) Chaapel. Joanna was a Canton High School graduate, class of 1948. After marrying Jim, Joanna took on the most important role in life; being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and crocheting. Joanna is survived by her two daughters: Dixie (Richard) Rhodes of Horseheads, NY and Alma Chapman of Troy, PA, her grandchildren: Michael Rhodes of Horseheads, NY, and Nichole Rhodes of Rochester, NY, her brothers: Merle (Judy) Chaapel of Troy, PA, Paul "Pappy" Chaapel of Venice, FL, Ernie (Norma) Chaapel of Millerton, PA, and Dick Chaapel of Elmira, NY, her sister-in-law Jean Rayburn of Bloomfield, NY, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her parents, her husband Jim, and her brothers: Martin Chaapel who passed away 1941, Roy Chaapel, Jr. who passed away in 1955, Russell Chaapel who passed away in 1985, her special friend Fred Pepper who passed away in 2001, all preceded Joanna in death. Contributions may be made in Joanna's memory to the Activity Fund of the Bradford County Manor, RR 3 Box 322 Troy, PA 16947 or to the charity of one's own choosing.
