RED LION- Joann (Upole) Jennings, 73, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Senior Commons at Powder Mill. She was the wife of the late Don R. Jennings, who passed away on November 13, 1990. The couple had been married for three years. A funeral memorial mass will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, November 16, 2012 at St. Mary’s Church of the Immaculate Conception, 309 S. George St., York with Father Fred Nkwasibwe officiating. A visitation will be from 9:15-10:15 a.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens, 5598 Trumps Mill Road, Baltimore. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Born on September 27, 1939 in Deer Park, MD, she was a daughter of the late Darius P. and Nora E. (Pysell) Upole. She was a 1957 graduate of Franklin Senior High School in Reisterstown, MD. Joann worked as a Payroll Clerk for Rukert Marine Terminal until her retirement. Mrs. Jennings was a member of St. Mary’s Church of the Immaculate Conception. She enjoyed collecting classic cars, teddy bears, teapots and cups and loved tending to her roses. Joann was proud that she once rode a lap around Indianapolis Speedway. She was a member of the Royal Tea Club. She also traveled to all 50 states throughout her lifetime, visiting many lighthouses along the way and traveled to 24 different countries. Mrs. Jennings is survived by one stepson, Don Jennings, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Baltimore; one stepdaughter, Carol Mister and her husband, Ed of Stewartstown; four step grandsons; two step great grandchildren; one brother, William Upole and his wife, Helen of Ocean City, MD and Kissimmee, FL; one sister, E. Louise Brooks and her husband, Russell of York; five nieces and nephews, Ruth Joynes of Red Lion, Joan Wimberly and her husband, Paul of Marriottsville, MD, William Parrish and his wife, Terry of Taneytown, MD, William Upole and his companion, Lisa Plank of Aspers, PA and Nedean Fales of Westminster, MD; eight great nieces and nephews, Sebastian, Sebrina, Austin, Parker, Jay, Kelly, April and Marsha; and five great great nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association at ABTA.org in Joann’s memory.
