Joann E. Gifford

YORK- JoAnn E. (Johnson) Gifford, 78, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at York Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Donald H. Gifford. A celebration of life service will be held on April 23, 2017 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, 17403, at 3:00PM with Pastor Rick Smith officiating. A visitaion will be held at 2:30PM prior to the service. Born January 4, 1939 in York, she was a daughter of the late Elwood H. and Gladys E. (Shelly) Johnson. JoAnn adored her husband and loved taking trips and traveling across the United States with their family. Besides being a wonderful mom, she was a doting "Mamaw" who loved spending time with her grandsons. A 1956 William Penn Senior High graduate, Mrs. Gifford worked as a secretary at William Penn High School and York Lincoln Mercury. She was a long time member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she was also a secretary for many years until her retirement. JoAnn enjoyed and served as a Girl Scout leader for over 20 years. She was a member of the Sho Shoni Indian dance team and the American Collectors of Infant Feeders. JoAnn is survived by her two daughters, Tracy G. Springman and her husband Kent of York and Shelly D. Gifford and her husband Keith Krammes of Pine Grove; two grandsons, Jeremy R. Springman and his fiancée Kristen and Cory R. Springman. In addition to her husband, JoAnn was preceded in death by her sister Jane Helzer.
