Joan E. (Markey) Raffensberger

YORK- Joan E. Raffensberger, 84, passed away November 14, 2024 at York Hospital after a short illness. 

Joan was born February 10, 1940 to the late David E and Mary Scott Markey in York, PA. She worked at Lehman’s produce stand for several years before becoming a homemaker and mother extraordinaire. She was a loving caregiver to her special needs daughter Sharon. She graduated from William Penn High School in 1959. She was a member of St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church in York New Salem. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Sharon Raffensberger and a brother William (Bill) Markey.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years Dale Raffensberger; daughters and sons-in-law: Linda (Rev. Dr. James) Guthrie of Valdosta, GA; Joyce (James) Trimmer of Dover; Ruth Ellen (Keith) Wallick of Etters; 4 grandchildren: Sarah Trimmer of Dover; Jacob (Brittani) Trimmer of York; Lucinda Wallick and David Wallick of Etters, a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Jacob’s Union Cemetery.
