Joan R. Nolan

NANTICOKE- Joan R. Nolan, of Nanticoke, formerly of New Jersey, passed away Friday, April 10, 2009, at General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Newark, NJ on September 9, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Dorothy (Pitt) Zipf. She was the sister of Bob (Betty) Vandeburg and Edwin Zipf. Joan was a former member of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Elk's Post 1591 in Union County, NJ, and in recent years, she became an avid Yankee's fan. Her favorite player was Derek Jeter. Left to cherish her memory, are her husband of 48 years, Edward C. Nolan; son, Edward Nolan, and his wife Lorraine, Mountaintop; daughters, Deborah Sturgeon, Phoenix, AZ, and Pamela Nolan, Ocean City, NJ; grandchildren, Silena, Daniel, Ashley, Caitlin, Michael, Cassidy, and Justin; and great-grandson, Danny. Funeral services were held privately at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.
