Joan L. (Weimer) Hamer

MANCHESTER- Joan L. (Weimer) Hamer, 77, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia with family by her side. She was the wife of Ricky A. Hamer, to whom she was married 33 years. Born July 23, 1941 in Harrisburg, Joan was the daughter to the late Edgar and Verna P. (Progin) Weimer, Sr. Joan was talented at many things but her love of knitting, along with her generous heart, were her cornerstones. She was well known in the global knitting community, designing a universal pattern to make knitting socks easier for the majority. Joan’s generous nature inspired her to knit hats for premature newborns and donate them, and her latest contribution project being knitting blankets for patients in dialysis. In addition to her beloved husband, Mrs. Hamer is survived by a daughter, Jodi Dowling and her husband Michael Sr.; two grandchildren, Michael Dowling, Jr. (Kristen) and Justin Dowling (Yajaira), and four great grandchildren, Parker, Scarlett, Sydney and Olivia. Along with her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Edgar Weimer, Jr. and his wife, Martha Weimer. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, is in charge of arrangements.
