YORK - Jerry L. Goodling, 78, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving wife, Martha M. (Sandy) Goodling and their daughters.
Born April 27, 1945 in York, Jerry was the son of the late Anna (Goodling) Weaver. Jerry married his high school sweetheart in 1963 and spent the next 60 years making his wife, his family and friends smile. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country honorably during the Vietnam War as a jet engine mechanic on B52 bombers.
Jerry was a devoted, hard working family man. He exemplified qualities of reliability, commitment, responsibility and perseverance. Holding many positions throughout his career, Jerry retired in 2003 from one of his favorite positions, an Operations Manager at the Hanover Mall. (Let’s be honest, all the beautiful ladies coming and going made that job even more enjoyable.)
Jerry’s passions in life started.and ended with his family. With life’s trials and tribulations, he and Martha approached life together with strength, courage, loyalty, and above all else, love. Obstacles were approached with confidence. He found humor in every day life and had a belly laugh you could hear down the street. His coaching days with the West York Midget football team provided great joy and pride. He was an avid NASCAR memorabilia collector, loved watching Penn State football, and golf was a favorite past time. Dogs were always one of Jerry’s best friends.
Throughout his struggles, Jerry remained resilient, strong minded, positive and with a will to help others. His last wishes include donating his body for scientific study to Humanity Gifts Registry. Giving to other’s even in the afterlife, Jerry’s love for life and humankind persevere.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jerry leaves behind four daughters, Carol Kennedy and her husband, Dion, Barbara Goodling, Brenda Walker and her husband John, Melissa Gordon and her husband Michael; nine grandchildren, Crista, Michelle, Meaghan and her husband Matt, Abigale, Christopher, AnnaMae, Jeremy, Emma, and Elana; six great grandchildren, Bailey, Matthew, Bradley, Caden, Ashton, and Benny; a brother, Terry Weaver; a sister, Sharon Tomczyk; several nieces and nephews; many wonderful close friends including his childhood best friend, George Hoffman, who he loved reminiscing with.
Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Anna Weaver; step father, John Weaver; his grandparents, Sarah and Benjamin Goodling, and his mother-in-law, Jimmie Sandy.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
