Jeffrey J. Giano

YORK - Jeffrey J. Giano, 74, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at his home after a lengthy hospital stay. He was the husband of Michele L. (Kramer) Giano to whom he celebrated 49 years of marriage. Born March 9, 1943 in Bristol, PA a son of the late George and Marie (Viesz) Giano, he received his BS and Master’s Degrees in Education from Millersville University and earned his Administrative Certification from Western Maryland College. Mr. Giano began his teaching career with one year in Lancaster and a second in Elizabethtown. He then went to Dover Area School District where he was also instrumental in starting Dover's high school football program. He served as the Head Football Coach for 10 years. Mr. Giano later became a Principal in Spring Grove Area School District, beginning in the Middle School and then the High School. He retired from Spring Grove after 29 years in education. In addition to coaching football, Mr. Giano enjoyed being a PIAA football official and also coached and officiated track and field. He was a member of Weigelstown Lions Club, was an outdoor enthusiast and loved golfing and fur trapping. He served in the US Army prior to attending college. In addition to his wife, Mr. Giano is survived by a daughter, Andrea L. Giano and husband Erick Hartman of York; and a sister, Tina Thomas of Bensalem, PA.
