Jean E. (Zacher) Yarnell Berger

Jean E. Zacher Yarnell Berger, 81, of Port Carbon, formerly of Pottsville, died Friday morning at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. She was born in Pottsville, on December 27, 1925, a daughter of the late Joseph and Marian (Pifer) Zachar. She was a 1943 graduate of Pottsville High School. She was a member of the Mary Queen of Peace Church, Pottsville, where she was a member of the Women's Guild. Jean was also a member of the Lions Club and was a Good Samaritan Volunteer. Jean is survived by: two sons, Edward J. Yarnell and his wife Karleen, of Pottsville and Thomas Yarnell and his wife Anne Marie, of Pottsville; a daughter, Margaret Tokonitz, and her husband Leonard, of Port Carbon, eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Klinger, of Pottsville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by: her first husband, Edward G. Yarnell, who died in 1982; her second husband, Dean C. Berger, who died in 1999; a brother, Robert Zachar; and two sisters, Margaret Gately and Mary Kershaw. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 10:00 AM at the Mary Queen of Peace Church, Pottsville. The Rev. John Bambrick will officiate. Family and friends may call Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 8:30 - 9:30 AM at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc. 6th & W. Market St., Pottsville. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
