Jean E. (Starry) Smith

Dover—Jean E. (Starry) Smith, 83, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Rest Haven Nursing Home. She was the wife of Herbert F. Smith. The couple celebrated their 3rd wedding anniversary February 14th. A graveside service will be private at the convenience of the family in Salem Union Cemetery, Dover. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is in charge of arrangements. Born April 18, 1929 in York Springs, Adams County, she was the daughter of the late James and Catherine (Kemper) Starry. She was employed with Glen Gary Brick Company as a secretary for 22 years until her retirement. A member of St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church in York New Salem, she was also an avid bowler and participated in senior bowling leagues at Lincolnway Bowling Center. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed reading, traveling and playing cards. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Smith is also survived by three sons, Duane King of Pagosa Springs, CO, Bret King and his wife, Jill of New Oxford and Kevin King and his wife, Jackie of Ft. Collins, CO; one daughter, Karen Lawrence and her husband, Ben of Hanover; 4 step children, 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother.
