HANOVER- M. Janis (Hanna) Bowersox, died Sunday, March 18, 2007 at Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover, at the age of 90; prior to her stay at Homewood, Janis was a resident of Hanover and Pine Springs in York. Janis was born in Portland, OR on December 10, 1916, was a devoted wife to her husband of 49 years and a loving mother to 10 children. Those who knew Janis admired her strength, patience, humor and calm demeanor. Janis was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and St. Jacob's Lutheran Church in York New Salem. She worked in the emergency room at York Memorial Hospital from 1968-1982. Prior to her marriage, Janis attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Mary (Parker) Hanna of North Baltimore, OH. Janis was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Bonnie Jane in 1955, and her husband, David F. Bowersox in 1984. She is survived by six sons: Lt. Col (Ret) Robert L. Bowersox (Demeral) of Ft. Myers, FL and Hanover, PA, Dr. H. Jon Bowersox (Karen) of Mentor, OH; Eric Bowersox (Anna and the late Nancy Bowersox) of Spring Grove; David Bowersox (Lisa) of Littlestown; Mark Bowersox (Brenda) of Hanover; James Bowersox (Jane) of Cincinnati OH and three daughters: Patricia Schmidt-Frost (Frank) of Phoenix, AZ; Sue Ellen McGinnis (the late John) of Ft. Myers, FL; and Rebecca Crist (Bryan) of Bloomfield, CO. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren. In accordance with her wishes, Janis will be buried alongside her husband at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York, following a private viewing and graveside service for family and relatives. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth RD. in York is in charge of the arrangements. A Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2007 in the chapel at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover, PA . In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Benevolent Fund at Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover, PA 17331 or Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60601.
