Janet R. Matson

YORK – Janet R. (Raudenbush) Matson, 79, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Manor Care Sinking Springs. She was the wife of the late Cameron H. Matson. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 25, 2017 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 West Market Street, York with her pastor, The Rev. Keith C. Fair officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11:00 AM Saturday at the Church. Private burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland, PA. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born December 3, 1937 in Danville, a daughter of the late Clyde M. and Margaret A. (Long) Raudenbush, she was a 1959 graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. At PSU, Janet received the President Sparks Medal for scholarship which is awarded to one Dean’s List student each year. Mrs. Matson retired from West York Area School District where she taught second grade for 37 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Red Hat Society, Maple Press Lunchers and served on the advisory board for Penn State York. As an active member at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Janet served as the treasurer for Women’s Circle and enjoyed her Card Ministry where she designed and made a special greeting card for each month to go out to the Church’s shut-ins. Mrs. Matson is survived by a sister, Joan R. Wendel of Reading; three nephews, Robert, James, and Jerrold Wendel; and two nieces, Heather Alexander and Amy Raudenbush.
