New Cumberland—Janet R. Arter, 73, passed away, Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Carlisle Hospital. She was the wife of Willard E. Arter to whom she was married for 52 years. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, February 19, 2010 at Beaver-Urich Funeral Home, Inc, 305 W. Front Street, Lewisberry, with the Rev. Kenneth J. McCoy, of Mountain Grove Chapel in Dover, officiating. A viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, at the funeral chapel. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Born November 15, 1936 in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Charlotte (Quick) Kemler. She was employed as a machine operator for 22 years with DuPont, until her retirement in 1990. She loved being a grandmother to all her grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoyed casinos, yatzee, crocheting and liked playing games. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Arter is also survived by three children, Alice L. Shenk and her husband Phil Jr, of Dover, Willard E. "Bill" Arter II and his wife, Arla, and Joy J. Shenk and her husband, Pete, all of New Cumberland, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, two brothers, John Kemler of Malvern and Raymond "Butch" Kemler of Berwick, sister-in-law, Reta Getz of Mechanicsburg and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Assoc. of PA, 3001 Old Gettysburg Rd, Camp Hill, Pa 17011.
