Janet E. (Sprenkle) Orwig

Born October 7, 1937, to the late Sarah (Myers) and M. Leroy Sprenkle in Red Lion, PA, Janet lived 84 years until she went to the Lord on May 7, 2022. Married on July 6, 1957, to the love of her life, husband Richard B. “Dick” Orwig, they celebrated 64 beautiful years of marriage together. They were high school sweethearts. She was the loving mother of Robert L. Orwig, wife Patricia; Stacy S. Shaull, husband Lee; and Sarah R. Warner, husband Gregory. Janet was a devoted grandmother, blessed with six grandchildren (Scott, Kristin, Andrew, Luke, Emily, and Daniel) and four great-grandchildren, all being the apple of her eye. Her family caused her to “light up”, and by far, was her greatest happiness! A 1955 graduate of Red Lion Area Senior High School, she completed 2 years of Nurses Training at York Hospital until her children and new family became her priority. She then worked for 6 years at Amity Finance Company and Danskin for 20 years. Janet was a 50+ year member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Red Lion, PA, where, in her heyday, she was active in its Called-To-Care Ministry and Prayer Chain. Janet is survived by her beloved sister, Ruth Hess and husband Ralph, and numerous nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends. She was a “Coaches Wife”, as Dick coached several sports for many years, maintaining family life at home. Janet was very devoted to attending every sporting event of her children, so much so, she acquired her driver’s license. She loved to travel, particularly to Florida and Myrtle Beach, SC. Spending time shopping with her sister Ruth, cousin Sally, and daughters was a joy. A people person, who loved conversation and caring for others, the last couple years were particularly hard for her due to declining health and the pandemic, as she could not see or be with those she loved. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. A Service of Death and Resurrection will be 10AM, Friday, May 13, 2022 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., Red Lion. Officiating the service will be Pastor Luke Harbaugh. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements.
