Janet E. Horning

EPHRATA Janet E. (Braine) Horning, 73, of Ephrata died Thursday evening, March 8, 2018 at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at St. Stephen Reformed Church, 249 E. Main Street, New Holland with Rev. Timothy Witmer officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, York is assisting with arrangements. Born January 27, 1945 in Grove City, Mercer County, PA, Janet was the daughter of the late Paul and Stella (Parfinski) Braine. Janet graduated from Garden Spot High School and attended Goldey–Beacom College. She worked as a purchasing agent for Sperry New Holland, New Holland Ford and Case New Holland, retiring after 24 years of service. Upon her retirement, she began a second career caring for clients in the Lancaster area as an esthetician. Janet was a long-time member of St. Stephen’s UCC in New Holland and had most recently attended Hope United Methodist Church in Ephrata. Janet was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years. She gave back to her community in a variety of ways, most recently as a volunteer at Lancaster General Hospital. She leaves her two sons, Gregory S. Horning and his wife, Angela, of Reisterstown, MD, and Steven M. Horning and his wife, Jennifer, of Jacobus, PA; five grandsons, Mitchell, Sean Clayton, Isaac and Jacob Horning; and a brother, Richard Braine of New Holland. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Braine, Jr. Janet valued time spent with her family and friends. She had a huge heart for people and animals alike. She will be fondly remembered by all who loved her for her bright smile, loving-kindness, and endearing sense of humor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane League of Lancaster, 2195 E. Lincoln Hwy., Lancaster, PA 17602 or to any animal rescue facility of your choosing.
