York—James W. Haverstick, 82, passed away July 30, 2018 at Senior Commons--Powder Mill. He was the husband of the late Dorcas E. (Landis) Haverstick to whom he was married for 45 years. A Celebration of Life Tribute will be from 9-10AM, Saturday August 4, 2018 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Born March 31, 1936 in New Oxford, he was a son of the late Rufus A. and Patricia (Wagman) Haverstick. After serving in the United States Navy as a radioman, he returned to Hanover to become a welder at EMECO, making the iconic Navy chair, and then military vehicles at Bowen-McLaughlin York. He was an ambulance driver and fire chief at the Midway fire company. In addition, he met many wonderful people including his wife Dorcas, while driving tour buses for the Lincoln Bus company. He ended his career at the York Technical Institute as a drafting instructor and later became Program Director for the Drafting Department until his retirement. He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, and was active in his earlier life in the Civil Air Patrol and REACT. Mr. Haverstick is survived by two daughters, Holly A. Haverstick of Washington, DC and Becky S. Haverstick of Frederick, MD; one son, Craig A. Haverstick of San Diego; one brother, John Haverstick of Michigan City, IN and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Lindsey Haverstick and one daughter, Heather J. Haverstick.
