James R. Irvin, Sr.

WILLIAMSPORT - James R. Irvin, Sr., 88, died on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. James was born on November 27, 1922 in Muncy and was the son of the late Joseph and Leona (Elwell) Irvin. He was a graduate of Muncy High School and was a veteran of the US Army, serving in WWII as a TEC5. On September 5, 1951, he married the former Irene M. (Dutton) who survives and have celebrated 60 years as husband and wife. He had retired from the maintenance department of the Williamsport Area School District after 25 years service. In addition to his wife Irene, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law; James R. Irvin, Jr., Joseph G. and Janet Irvin and Thomas L. and Susan Irvin, all of Williamsport, one daughter and son-in-law; Robin M. and Gary Lucas of Williamsport, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. There will be a public viewing from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St., Williamsport with the funeral service beginning at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Kenton Hunt of the First Southern Baptist Church will officiate the services. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
