James R. 'Dick' Holtzapple

York—James Richard “Dick” Holtzapple, 89, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 5, 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was the husband of Letha A. (Gingerich) Holtzapple with whom he was married for 69 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 AM, Monday, March 11, 2013 at Pleasureville United Methodist Church, 2606 N. Sherman St., York with his pastor, the Rev. Steven M. Livermore officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, Monday, at the church. Burial will be held in Mt. Rose Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is in charge of arrangements. Born October 31, 1923 in Spring Grove, he was a son of the late Harry E. and Margie I. (Zinn) Holtzapple. He was employed with C.C. Kottcamp and a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 19 of Philadelphia until his retirement in 1985. Serving as a Master Sgt., he was a United States Marine Corps Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a member of Pleasureville United Methodist Church for 54 years, where he served as a trustee and was active on various other church committees. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was also a member of the Lincolnway Rod and Gun Club, Starview Sportsman Assoc., Hawks Club, American Legion Post 799, Longstown Village Card Club and coached Pleasureville Baseball for Boys for many years. In addition to his wife, Mr. Holtzapple is also survived by two sons; Larry and his wife, Violetta of the Philippines and Terry and wife, Elva of Coudersport; two grandchildren, Jason Holtzapple and wife, Angela and Leanne Livingston and husband, Adam; three great grandsons, Austin Dakota Holtzapple and Ryder James and Axel Jacob Livingston; one sister, Evelyn Bowser; one brother, Glenn and wife, Nancy and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Pleasureville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 2606 N. Sherman Street, York, PA 17406 or Parkinson’s Support Group, 1001 S. George Street, York, PA 17405 Dick’s family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to all the wonderful staff at Manor Care South and Heartland Hospice.
